Imran Khan’s Sentences Could Reach 140 Years, Country Practically Under Martial Law: Barrister Gohar

Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan has claimed that the cumulative sentences awarded to party founder Imran Khan could rise to as much as 140 years, calling the situation unconstitutional and alarming.
Addressing a national conference titled “Protection of the Consensus Constitution” in Islamabad, Barrister Gohar said that Imran Khan has already been handed a total of 70 years in various cases, and warned that pending verdicts in other cases could double the sentence to 140 years. He said such excessive punishment is against the spirit of the Constitution and the law.
Supporting the stance of former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, Barrister Gohar alleged that the country is “literally” under martial law, where judges, parliament, and political leadership are all unsafe. He claimed that justice is being mocked by repeatedly handing down sentences on the same charge, particularly in Toshakhana-related cases.
He warned powerful quarters that PTI has always pursued a peaceful and constitutional struggle. However, he cautioned that if justice is not delivered by the judiciary and the public’s political space continues to be restricted, people will be forced to find their own path.
Barrister Gohar said that once public anger crosses a certain point, the consequences would be beyond anyone’s control, urging institutions to uphold the Constitution and the rule of law to prevent further instability.
