Mangi Dam to Be Completed by 2026, Measures Underway to Improve Water Supply in Gwadar: Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran

*Quetta (Daily Qudrat):* The Balochistan Assembly has disposed of call attention notices related to the water crisis in Gwadar and the Mangi Dam project, while also approving legislation concerning Aga Khan Properties and the Balochistan Public-Private Partnership.

During the assembly session held on Tuesday, Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti said that the government is fully focused on resolving Gwadar’s water issues. He stated that in the past, billions of rupees were lost to corruption under the guise of water supply through tankers, a practice that has now been eliminated. The Chief Minister added that funds for completing the feasibility study to supply water from the Mirani Dam have been released and that assistance will be sought from the federal government and international institutions for the project. Currently, Gwadar is being supplied with 2.8 million gallons of water per day.

Briefing the House on the Mangi Dam project, Provincial Minister for Public Health Engineering Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran said that due to the non-availability of federal funds, the Chief Minister provided Rs2 billion from provincial resources. He informed the assembly that the Mangi Dam will be completed by March 2026 and that Quetta will start receiving water from the project by June 2026.

During the session, MPA Rahmat Saleh Baloch thanked fellow lawmakers and others for expressing condolences over the martyrdom of his brother and reiterated his resolve not to be intimidated by terrorism.

The Panel of Chairpersons also issued rulings regarding respect for assembly members’ official cards and flag-bearing vehicles, and directed that the director of the Quetta Project be summoned to brief the House on project-related matters.
