UAE Retains World’s Most Powerful Passport for 7th Consecutive Year as Asia Surges and Europe Slips

Islamabad: According to the Passport Index 2025, the United Arab Emirates has once again secured the title of the world’s most powerful passport, marking its seventh consecutive year at the top.

The report, released by global ranking firm Arton Capital, reveals that while several major countries experienced a decline in their passport strength this year, the UAE continued to advance, further solidifying its global lead.

**UAE Strengthens Its Dominance**

The UAE maintained its top position due to strong diplomatic relations, robust global mobility options, and investor-friendly policies. Despite tightening immigration rules and shifting global travel patterns, UAE citizens continue to enjoy the world’s highest ease of travel.

Armand Arton, CEO of Arton Capital, said that although the world is becoming more cautious and the era of rapid travel expansion is over, the UAE has sustained its dominance. He added that Asian passports are rising rapidly in global ranking trends.

**Asia’s Remarkable Rise**

In 2025, Asian countries achieved unprecedented gains.

* Singapore climbed from 30th to 2nd place with an impressive score of 175.
* Malaysia jumped from 41st to 17th place, earning a score of 174.
* Japan and South Korea, despite minor declines, remained among the world’s strongest passports.

Experts attribute Asia’s success to increasing economic power, expanded diplomatic networks, and enhanced mobility infrastructure.

**Europe Still Strong but Losing Ground**

European passports continue to dominate the top 20 rankings, with countries such as Spain, France, Germany, Italy, and Belgium securing high positions. However, their scores declined compared to last year due to stricter visa policies and newly introduced entry regulations, affecting travel accessibility.

**UK, US, and Canada Face Significant Declines**

English-speaking nations saw some of the biggest drops in 2025:

* The United Kingdom fell from 32nd to 39th place.
* The United States ranked 41st.
* Canada slipped to 40th.

Many countries have revoked visa-free access for citizens of these nations. The report notes a rising trend among wealthy individuals from these countries seeking alternative citizenships or residency programs to maintain global mobility.

**A New Era of Digital Travel Authorization**

The year 2025 marks major growth in the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) system. Israel, the UK, Turkmenistan, Maldives, and Switzerland introduced ETA programs this year.

Canada removed visa requirements for Qatari citizens, granting them access to ETA — making Qatar only the second GCC nation to receive this benefit.

More than 25 additional countries plan to launch ETA systems in 2026. The EU’s upcoming ETIAS program is expected to become the world’s largest digital travel authorization system upon implementation.
