Facing Shortage of Men, Latvian Women Turn to “Husband for Rent” Services

Islamabad (Qudrat Daily) — A unique social trend has emerged in Latvia, a picturesque European country, where a significant decline in the male population has disrupted the gender balance, prompting women to seek unconventional solutions.
According to European media, Latvia’s female population exceeds the male population by 15.5 percent, making women noticeably more visible in public spaces, workplaces, and daily life.
The primary reason behind the decline in men is linked to lifestyle factors. Compared to women, Latvian men smoke more, suffer higher obesity rates, and become prone to chronic and life-threatening illnesses, resulting in a higher mortality rate.
The disproportionate population has created serious challenges for women — not only in finding suitable partners for marriage but also in managing everyday tasks traditionally handled by men.
To address this shortage, Latvian women have turned to social media platforms offering a new service: **“Husband for Rent.”**
These rented husbands handle household responsibilities such as repairing broken items, installing curtain rods, washing dishes, transporting goods, and other routine tasks. The advertisements are often titled *“Men With Golden Hands at Your Service,”* clearly stating that flirting, dating, and physical interaction are strictly prohibited.
This trend is not entirely new. In the UK, a woman had previously offered her real husband for rent, and he was fully booked for a month. He was hired at a rate of **$44 per hour** for home repairs, flooring, tile installation, and other domestic jobs.
The Latvian trend, however, reflects a much deeper demographic challenge — one that women are creatively trying to manage as the male population continues to shrink.
