Severe Cold Wave Hits Quetta as Gas Shortage Worsens; LPG and Firewood Prices Skyrocket

Quetta (Daily Qudrat) — A fresh wave of extreme cold has intensified the ongoing gas crisis in Quetta, causing widespread disruption to daily life across the city. With temperatures dropping sharply and icy winds sweeping the region, gas pressure in many areas has fallen to critically low levels over the past several days.
Residents from Sariab Road, Brewery, Satellite Town, Hazara Town, Jinnah Town, and Pashtunabad have reported that gas pressure is nearly nonexistent during morning and evening hours. As a result, household routines such as cooking, heating water, and running heaters have become nearly impossible.
“Children get ready for school in the morning, but the geyser water is ice-cold and the stove won’t turn on. We are forced to switch between LPG cylinders, firewood, and coal,” locals complained.
The gas shortage has triggered a steep rise in demand for LPG cylinders, firewood, and coal. Citizens report that LPG prices have surged abruptly, while firewood rates have doubled in the markets — placing heavy financial strain on low-income households already struggling with the harsh weather.
Residents have urged the government to take immediate notice of the situation, stating that despite gas availability, the lack of pressure has effectively paralyzed daily life. They warned that if authorities fail to address the issue promptly, they will be compelled to launch strong protests.
