KP Chief Minister Presents Province’s Case at NFC, Flags Resource Inequity Post-Terrorism

Islamabad: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi, addressed the media outside Adiala Jail, stating that he presented the province’s case at today’s National Finance Commission (NFC) meeting. Afridi highlighted that despite the administrative merger of the former tribal districts, resource distribution continues to favor only three and a half provinces, which he called a violation of the Constitution.
Afridi explained that following the 25th Constitutional Amendment, the tribal districts were merged administratively, but KP’s rightful financial share has not been allocated. During the NFC session, he raised the matter before federal and provincial representatives. A sub-committee has now been formed to submit its recommendations by January 8.
He expressed concern that KP’s infrastructure, education, and health systems were severely damaged during the fight against terrorism, yet the province has not received its due share, while other provinces have been allocated their portions.
Responding to questions about meeting PTI founder Imran Khan, Afridi said that the NFC session ran long and his time in jail had expired. He added that “Prisoner No. 804 lives in our hearts; we invoke his name day and night, and this bond is lifelong.”
Afridi also rejected allegations of facilitating Afghan refugees, stating that those issuing ID cards to illegal Afghan residents and enabling them to contest elections are responsible. He expressed hope for a meeting with the PTI founder soon, if permitted.
