Airbus Orders Immediate Software Update for A320 Fleet; Over 6,000 Aircraft Affected Worldwide

Airbus has decided to immediately update the software of its A320 aircraft series, a move that could impact more than 6,000 planes globally. The decision comes after a recent incident revealed that solar radiation may corrupt flight data and affect aircraft control systems.

According to international media reports, on October 30, an Airbus A320 flying from Mexico to New Jersey briefly lost control and suddenly dropped altitude, leaving several passengers injured. The incident prompted an urgent review of the aircraft’s digital systems.

Following Airbus’s directive, major airlines — including American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Air New Zealand, and Turkish Airlines — have issued warnings about potential flight disruptions during the update process.

Australian airlines stated that some of their flights are currently unable to take off due to ongoing software updates. Saudi Airlines also confirmed delays in certain flights owing to software and technical maintenance work.

Meanwhile, the UK Civil Aviation Authority has also expressed concerns that the large-scale software update may temporarily impact flight schedules across several airports.
