Sindh Approves Expansion of Electric Bikes Scheme for Working Women and Students
Rs 85.5 Billion Allocated for Karachi’s Water and Drainage Projects, Says Sharjeel Memon

Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has announced that the provincial government has approved an increase in the number of electric bikes for working women and female students, aiming to enhance safe and affordable mobility.
In an official statement, Sharjeel Memon highlighted that the world’s largest housing initiative — the SPHF (Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees) — is not merely a scheme but a “new social revolution.” He noted that verification of 2 million applicants had been completed, 1.5 million bank accounts had been opened, and construction of 650,000 homes was nearing completion.
He added that the program has generated employment opportunities for 1 million people and granted land ownership rights to 900,000 women.
Sharjeel Memon revealed that a substantial allocation of Rs 85.5 billion has been earmarked for clean drinking water and sewage systems in Karachi. Funds have already been released for key projects, including K-IV, Hub, stormwater drains, and KWSSIP-II, to ensure timely provision of essential services to citizens.
He stated that the Sindh government is giving unprecedented attention to its development agenda. A total of 293 schemes related to water, sanitation, and municipal services have been approved. The Chief Minister has instructed timely release of funds for all ongoing projects, while significant progress is being made on improving urban and rural road networks. The Chief Minister has personally inspected 620 road projects so far.
The senior minister further said that the Korangi Causeway Bridge, multiple underpasses, and the Lyari Transformation Project are near completion, while rehabilitation of 970 kilometers of roads is underway. Funds for the Sindh Solar Energy Project have also been released, and work on renewable energy initiatives worth Rs 25 billion has commenced.
Sharjeel Memon said the Sindh government’s vision is based on resilience, prosperity, and equality — and development activities across the province are advancing at full pace under this vision.
