Under 27th Amendment, Post of Chairman Joint Chiefs Abolished — General Sahir Shamshad Mirza Retires as Last CJCSC

Rawalpindi/Islamabad: General Sahir Shamshad Mirza has retired upon completion of his tenure — becoming the final holder of the post of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), which has been abolished under the newly passed 27th Constitutional Amendment.
As a result of the constitutional change, no new chairman will be appointed in the future. The reforms instead create a new military structure in which the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) — held by the head of the Army — will assume combined top command, marking a major reorganization of Pakistan’s military leadership.
General Mirza — who served three years in the position — paid farewell calls to the Prime Minister and President and was honored for his “vision, leadership and professionalism.”
Analysts view this as a historic shift: the CJCSC — originally established in 1976 — will now cease to exist, ending more than four decades of the post’s legacy.
