Gas Crisis Worsens in Quetta as GM’s Indifference Leaves Lawmakers Helpless

Quetta (Daily Qudrat) — The gas crisis in the provincial capital has intensified amid harsh winter conditions, causing severe hardship for residents. Instead of improvement, the shortage has worsened, leaving citizens struggling to manage daily life.
According to local reports, gas supply in most areas of Quetta is completely shut off after 10 p.m. and restored around 6 a.m. with extremely low pressure. This prolonged disruption is severely affecting households, students, patients, and the business community.
The gravity of the situation can be gauged from the fact that nine members of the provincial assembly and two members of the National Assembly have repeatedly contacted the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) administration regarding unfair load shedding and mismanagement. Despite their efforts, no practical progress has been achieved.
Public representatives have complained that the obstinacy of the company’s General Manager and misuse of authority have rendered even elected officials helpless, while the public continues to suffer. Citizens say that despite government claims and development slogans, the administration has failed to provide basic facilities. Many households are spending freezing nights without gas, and costly alternatives are affecting low-income families the most.
Both public representatives and residents have urged the Prime Minister, Minister for Energy, and senior authorities to improve Quetta’s gas supply schedule on an emergency basis, take action against those responsible, and devise a permanent solution to the crisis so that citizens can live safely and comfortably during the harsh winter.
