Sindh Approves Rs25 Billion for Construction of 315 Inner Roads and 60 Major Arterial Routes in Karachi

Karachi – Sindh Chief Minister has approved Rs25 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 315 internal roads and 60 major arteries across Karachi.

According to Express News, the approval was granted during a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House, chaired by the CM. The meeting was attended by Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah, Principal Secretary Agha Wasif, Senior Member Board of Revenue Khalid Haider Shah, and other senior officials.

The Chief Minister stated that financial resources would not hinder efforts to improve the city’s deteriorating infrastructure and resolve chronic traffic congestion issues; however, he emphasized that reconstruction work must begin without delay.

Referring to recent rains, he noted that Karachi’s roads had suffered extensive damage, and ongoing mega projects were contributing to additional traffic challenges. He stressed the need to accelerate development work to prevent further inconvenience to the public. He told the Mayor that funds are not an issue — what matters is delivering results on a fast track.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab informed the meeting that 315 internal streets across the city were in critical condition and required immediate repair. The Chief Minister approved all proposed neighbourhood road projects and directed authorities to launch work swiftly.

Wahab added that the reconstruction of 60 major roads would cost approximately Rs25 billion. The Chief Minister instructed that all construction work be comprehensive and integrated, ensuring that proper sewerage systems are installed alongside rebuilt streets. He also ordered that drainage systems be constructed simultaneously with the 60 major roads to prevent future damage.

Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah also briefed the CM on the progress of the Korangi Causeway Bridge and Sharea Bhutto Expressway, stating that both projects were nearing completion and portions would be opened for traffic within the next two months.
