Islamabad Police Receive New Vehicles After 14 Years, 9,000 New Recruits Announced

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Police have received 30 new vehicles for the capital’s 27 police stations after a gap of 14 years, while the government has also announced the recruitment of 9,000 new personnel to address the shortage of manpower.

A ceremony was held to hand over the new vehicles to Islamabad Police, where Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry presented the vehicle keys to police officials.

Mohsin Naqvi said modern policing was impossible with outdated and unserviceable vehicles. He stressed that police requirements must be met according to modern needs to achieve the desired results.

He said the new vehicles would help improve police response times, adding that all necessary resources were being provided to ensure the safety and security of citizens.

The interior minister further said that providing better resources would enable the police to perform their duties more effectively. He added that construction and upgradation work on all Islamabad police stations was also underway and would be completed soon.

Naqvi said the use of electric vehicles was part of an environment-friendly policy and would significantly reduce fuel and petroleum-related expenses.

Minister of State Talal Chaudhry said the new vehicles had been handed over to all 27 police stations in Islamabad. He noted that Islamabad Police had been operating vehicles that were more than 14 years old.

He said logistical facilities were also being provided to police officers, while residential facilities were being constructed for them. Work on the construction and rehabilitation of all 27 police stations is also underway and is expected to be completed this year.

Talal Chaudhry said 9,000 new police personnel were being recruited to overcome the shortage of manpower, adding that merit would be ensured throughout the recruitment process.

He said these measures would transform Islamabad Police into a model police force for the entire country, adding that the improvements had been introduced over the past two years.

The federal interior secretary, Inspector General Islamabad Police and senior police officers also attended the ceremony.
