Late-Night Activity at Islamabad High Court as IG and Chief Commissioner Meet Chief Justice

Islamabad: Unusual late-night activity was witnessed at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) when the Inspector General of Islamabad Police and the Chief Commissioner arrived at the court and held a meeting with Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar before leaving.

According to sources, Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar was present in his chambers late at night when the IG and Chief Commissioner visited and met him briefly.

Sources further revealed that the oath-taking ceremony for judges of the newly formed Federal Constitutional Court is likely to be held inside the Islamabad High Court building. Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, Justice Aminuddin Khan, is expected to take oath first and then administer the oath to the remaining judges.

Preparations for the ceremony are reportedly underway at the IHC premises, though both Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and the Registrar have since departed.

Earlier, on the Prime Minister’s advice, the President appointed Justice Aminuddin Khan as the Chief Justice of the Federal Constitutional Court, and the Ministry of Law and Justice issued the official notification. This followed the approval of the 27th Constitutional Amendment by both the Senate and the National Assembly, after which the President signed it into law.

In a strong reaction, Senior Supreme Court Judge Justice Mansoor Ali Shah resigned from his position, calling the approval of the 27th Amendment a severe blow to constitutional democracy. Justice Athar Minallah also tendered his resignation.
