Fayyaz Chaudhry Criticizes Fawad Chaudhry Over Naseem Shah’s Tweet on Maryam Nawaz

Lahore: Former Punjab Information Minister Fayyaz Hassan Chohan has publicly criticized fellow politician Fawad Chaudhry following the controversy over cricketer Naseem Shah’s tweet regarding Maryam Nawaz, Punjab’s Chief Minister.

Taking to social media platform X, Chohan wrote that Fawad Chaudhry should be ashamed for using the incident to lecture a young player on morality and sportsmanship, instead promoting what he described as “ignorance, extremism, and recklessness.”

Chohan, who said he has little interest in cricket and limited knowledge of recent players, advised Naseem Shah to focus on his sport and profession. He also questioned Shah’s claim regarding Maryam Nawaz, sarcastically asking whether she had met him in a manner that would justify his comments.

Addressing the cricketer as if he were his own child, Chohan warned him to stay away from figures like Imran Khan and Fawad Chaudhry, suggesting that associating with them could harm one’s reputation, career, and livelihood. He further criticized Fawad Chaudhry for giving what he called “bad advice” to Shah, referencing Chaudhry’s long-standing political commentary over the past four years.

The controversy began during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) opening ceremony, when Shah reportedly questioned on X why Maryam Nawaz was given a queen-like protocol. Shah later claimed that his account had been hacked. Subsequently, Fawad Chaudhry commented on X that Naseem Shah had become so famous from the tweet that if he ran against Maryam Nawaz in an election today, his bail would be forfeited.

Chohan concluded his statement by warning Naseem Shah to be cautious of politicians like Fawad Chaudhry, describing them as opportunistic and harmful to young people.
