Quota for Afghan Students Abolished in Four Major Universities of Balochistan

**Quetta (Qudrat Daily)** — The administrations of four major public universities in Balochistan have decided to abolish the **reserved quota for Afghan students** following a review of their enrollment records.

According to sources, a total of **201 Afghan students** are currently studying in the province’s leading universities, including **University of Balochistan (84 students)**, **BUITEMS (59)**, **University of Loralai (22)**, and **Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University Quetta (36)**. University officials clarified that several of these students have already returned to Afghanistan after their visas expired, though many wish to continue their education.

The administrations stated that the decision to eliminate the quota aims to **increase educational opportunities for local students** and **ensure balanced admissions**, as the growing number of Afghan students in recent years had reduced the availability of seats for local applicants.

Higher education sources confirmed that the **Government of Balochistan** has agreed to apply the **same admission policy for Afghan students as for other international applicants** in future enrollment cycles. The decision has also been formally communicated to the federal government.

Student organizations have welcomed the move, calling it a **positive step in favor of local students** and a necessary measure to maintain fairness in higher education admissions across the province.
