U.S. Seeks UN Approval to Deploy International Security Force in Gaza

Washington: The United States has requested the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to authorize the establishment of an International Security Force (ISF) in Gaza, intended to be deployed for a minimum of two years.

According to U.S. media outlet Axios, the U.S. has circulated a draft resolution to UNSC member states outlining the force’s powers, responsibilities, and operational framework.

The draft states that the force will be formed on the advice of the Gaza Board of Peace and chaired by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The ISF will be responsible for securing Gaza’s borders, protecting civilians and humanitarian corridors, training the Palestinian police, and overseeing the demilitarization of the area.

The force will have the authority to take all necessary actions within international law to fulfill its mandate.

Reports clarify that the ISF is an enforcement force rather than a peacekeeping mission. Its primary goal is to provide interim security in Gaza, allowing Israel to gradually withdraw and enabling the Palestinian Authority to assume control following institutional reforms.

The proposed resolution also suggests that Gaza’s civil administration be managed by a non-political technocratic committee, while humanitarian aid will be delivered through the United Nations, the Red Cross, and the Red Crescent.
