Over 10,000 Afghan Refugees Repatriated via Chaman and Torkham Borders

Chaman: The repatriation of Afghan refugees from Pakistan continues at a rapid pace, with around **10,700 Afghans** returning to their homeland through the **Chaman border** in a single day. According to the **Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Home Department**, the repatriation process has also begun at the **Torkham border**.
Official figures show that so far, approximately **1.56 million Afghan refugees** have returned to Afghanistan. Authorities confirmed that the repatriation is being carried out **in accordance with legal procedures**, and each individual’s documents are verified before crossing the border. The **Frontier Corps (FC)** and **civil administration** have arranged temporary shelter and food for departing refugees.
Pakistan, which hosted Afghan nationals for over **four decades** following war and unrest in Afghanistan, has initiated this repatriation drive **to safeguard national security**. The government has reiterated that entry into Pakistan without a **passport and visa** will no longer be permitted.
The Home Department reported that through the **Torkham crossing**, **5,220 Proof of Registration (PoR) cardholders**, **401 Afghan Citizen Cardholders**, and **2,314 undocumented Afghans** were repatriated on the previous day alone.
From other provinces, a total of **25,392 undocumented Afghans**, **9,620 Afghan Citizen Cardholders**, and **1,498 PoR cardholders** have returned home. Meanwhile, **7,261 foreign nationals** have been deported from Peshawar, Landi Kotal, and Kohat prisons, and **1,326 Afghans** temporarily staying in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were also sent back.
While both **Chaman and Torkham borders** remain open for pedestrian repatriation of Afghan refugees, **trade and regular cross-border movement remain suspended until further notice**. This closure has reportedly caused the spoilage of perishable goods and an estimated **daily loss of around PKR 2 billion to Afghanistan**.
