Sindh CM Announces Free Electric Scooters for Women; Rs 55.89 Billion Relief Package for Farmers

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister **Murad Ali Shah** has announced that the **provincial government will provide free electric scooters to women** across the province as part of its empowerment and mobility initiative.
Speaking at a press conference, the chief minister said **Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari** had made several **demands to the federal government for farmer relief** and had played an active role in efforts to **support the agriculture sector**.
Murad Ali Shah said the provincial government had taken **measures to prevent a wheat crisis**, adding that the **federal government had sought proposals from Sindh** to help increase national wheat production. He emphasized that ensuring **timely supply of fertilizer and other inputs** was essential to achieving higher yields.
He further stated that the wheat saved last year had proved crucial, otherwise **imports would have been necessary**. The CM revealed that Sindh had set a **target of producing between 8 to 12 lakh tons of wheat** this year.
Murad Ali Shah criticized the federal government for **engaging with the IMF without consulting the provinces**, saying such decisions affect key economic sectors, including agriculture.
He added that when the **support price for wheat was fixed at Rs 4,000 per maund last year**, the province saw **record production**, but the absence of a fixed price this year led to a **decline in yield**.
The chief minister announced that the Sindh government would provide **a Rs 55.89 billion relief package** for farmers and distribute **DAP fertilizer bags worth Rs 14,000 each** to help them cope with rising costs.
Murad Ali Shah reiterated that the **wheat support price should not fall below Rs 4,000 per maund**, stressing that “**if the farmer is not supported, he will not cultivate wheat**.”
He concluded by saying that the Sindh government is committed to **providing better facilities to farmers** and **empowering women** through sustainable initiatives like the **free electric scooter program**.
