Afghan Children to Be Vaccinated Against Polio Before Deportation, Says Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister **Syed Murad Ali Shah** has said that all Afghan children residing in the province will first be administered **polio drops** before being deported.

Speaking to the media after inaugurating an **anti-polio campaign** at the **Gizri Maternity Home** in Karachi, the chief minister said that during the **seven-day campaign**, more than **10.6 million children** across Sindh will be vaccinated against polio.

Murad Ali Shah noted that **polio remains endemic only in Pakistan and Afghanistan**, recalling that “Shaheed Benazir Bhutto launched the national polio campaign by administering drops to her daughter, Asifa Bhutto.”

He acknowledged security threats following the **Pakistan-Afghanistan conflict**, but vowed that the campaign would continue undeterred. “Despite all threats, the anti-polio drive will continue with full strength. If any Afghan is found involved in wrongdoing, strict action will be taken,” he asserted.

The chief minister said two newborns were vaccinated during the launch event, adding that the campaign will run from **October 13 to 19**, with daily progress reports sent to the **Chief Minister’s House**, where a **special monitoring cell** has been established.

Appealing for public and media support, Shah said, “Everyone must play their role. I urge media outlets to highlight the polio campaign in their headlines and support this national cause.”

He further announced that a **special unit at the CM House** would reach out to parents refusing vaccination. “Our representatives will personally visit such families to convince them. Religious scholars and social figures are also requested to contribute to this vital mission,” he said.
