Balochistan Government Declares Water Emergency in Gwadar Amid Severe Shortage

GWADAR: The Balochistan government has declared a **water emergency in Gwadar** due to the worsening water crisis in the port city. The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by **Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti**.
All taxes related to water supply have been **suspended**, and emergency measures have been **accelerated** to address the crisis. The Chief Minister expressed **anger over the slow response** to the situation and issued a **stern warning to local officials**.
Bugti said that if the situation does not improve, he would **personally oversee water supply operations** in Gwadar alongside the **Chief Secretary**. He urged officials lacking crisis management or decision-making capability to **step down voluntarily**.
The Chief Minister directed that **all available resources be utilized under bridge financing** to overcome the shortage, stressing, “We cannot watch ordinary citizens suffer due to lack of water.”
He also ordered **strict action against the tanker mafia** exploiting the crisis and instructed authorities to **urgently complete a feasibility report** for reactivating **11 non-functional desalination plants**.
Calling the situation a **matter of human survival**, Bugti emphasized that **all political parties must be taken into confidence** to implement **practical and sustainable measures** for resolving the crisis.
