Sindh High Court Suspends Decision to Raise Nomination Fee to Rs200,000 in Bar Council Elections

Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has suspended the decision to increase the nomination fee for the Sindh Bar Council elections from Rs50,000 to Rs200,000.
The court was hearing a petition filed by candidate Advocate Waseem Sheikh, who challenged the hike in the nomination fee.
The petitioner argued that the Sindh Bar Council had unjustifiably raised the nomination fee to Rs200,000 per candidate, despite the fact that the council’s members are elected for the welfare of lawyers. “Such a high nomination fee is inappropriate and burdensome for candidates representing the legal community,” the petitioner contended.
The court, after hearing the arguments, restrained the Sindh Bar Council from collecting the increased fee until the next hearing and suspended the council’s decision to raise it.
The Sindh High Court has sought replies from all concerned parties and adjourned the hearing until **October 13**.
