Tropical Cyclone ‘Shakti’ May Form in Arabian Sea, Light Rain Expected in Karachi

Karachi:The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the possibility of light rainfall in Karachi and parts of Sindh as a weather system in the northeast Arabian Sea continues to intensify.
According to the Met Office, the system has strengthened from a depression into a deep depression and is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone within the next 12 hours. If it turns into a cyclone, it will be named *“Shakti”*—a name proposed by Sri Lanka, meaning *“power.”* The system also carries the potential to intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm.
Currently located about 400 kilometers south of Karachi, the weather system is expected to trigger rough sea conditions. The PMD has warned of high tides and stormy seas, with the cyclone possibly lingering over the Arabian Sea until October 5 or 6.
Authorities have advised Sindh’s fishermen not to venture into the sea until October 3 due to dangerous conditions.
