PM Shehbaz Sharif Hails “Historic and Fruitful” Meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump

London:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described his recent meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump as “pleasant and productive,” calling it a **new chapter in Pakistan-U.S. relations**.
Speaking at a press conference in London after his visits to New York and Washington, the Prime Minister said the trip was highly successful, covering key issues such as **Gaza, Kashmir, economy, and bilateral ties**.
Sharif revealed that President Trump assured Pakistan of **expanded economic cooperation**, particularly in **trade, investment, IT, agriculture, minerals, and energy sectors**. He expressed gratitude to Trump for his role in brokering a **ceasefire between Pakistan and India**, stating:
> “If the war had prolonged, its consequences would have been devastating. Pakistanis have nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.”
On regional crises, Sharif said the meeting with Trump alongside Arab and Islamic leaders was “encouraging,” noting “meaningful progress” on Gaza. He condemned the atrocities since 2023, urging an immediate end to the “unprecedented oppression of Muslims.” He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm stance on **Kashmir** at the UN General Assembly.
Highlighting military success, Sharif said:
> “In the *Battle of Haq*, India faced a humiliating defeat. Under Field Marshal Asim Munir’s leadership, Pakistan achieved historic victory, with the entire nation standing by its armed forces.”
> He reiterated that Pakistan’s nuclear capability is purely defensive.
The Prime Minister also pointed to Pakistan’s **new defense pact with Saudi Arabia**, stressing it was not aimed against anyone but reflected the historic brotherly ties and joint commitment to safeguarding the Holy Mosques.
Addressing domestic issues, Sharif criticized the previous government for “releasing and resettling terrorists,” but assured that Pakistan’s security forces remain determined in the fight against terrorism.
On economic recovery, he said Pakistan had achieved **basic stability** and was now striving for **sustainable growth**. He also recalled the devastation of the 2022 floods in Sindh and Punjab, pledging continued rehabilitation efforts.
Shehbaz Sharif concluded that his engagements abroad, especially the **warm reception in Saudi Arabia**, reflected Pakistan’s rising stature:
> “With sincerity and hard work, and under our collective leadership, Pakistan will reach the heights of progress.”
