Sherry Rehman Says It Is Not the Right Time to Discuss New Administrative Units

Sherry Rehman has said that discussions on creating new administrative units should not be pursued at this stage, stressing that the focus should instead remain on improving governance and resolving national issues through political dialogue.

ISLAMABAD: Speaking on Geo News’ program Geo Pakistan, the senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and senator said she had not seen any formal proposal regarding the creation of new administrative units.

Rehman stated that her party believes political issues should be resolved through democratic means and emphasized that reforming the governance system should be the government’s priority.

She also expressed concern over the country’s economic situation, saying that both public debt and government expenditures continue to rise. She added that no concrete proposal on administrative units has yet been presented before her party.

Commenting on the security situation, Rehman said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is facing terrorism along with a serious political crisis, making it an inappropriate time to debate the creation of new administrative units.

On regional affairs, she said conflicts in the region continue to escalate, with fighting pausing briefly before resuming. According to Rehman, people across Pakistan support efforts aimed at mediation and peaceful resolution of disputes.

She added that those involved in mediation efforts effectively form a “peace lobby” to counter forces pushing for continued conflict. Rehman also remarked that the United States had expected Iran to weaken quickly, but events had not unfolded as anticipated.
