Alleged Fake Degree Case: Justice Tariq Challenges IHC Decision in Supreme Court

Islamabad: Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri has challenged the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) ruling in the alleged fake degree case before the Supreme Court, arguing that the controversial order has violated his constitutional rights and harmed judicial independence.
In his petition, Justice Jahangiri contended that a sitting judge cannot be barred from performing judicial duties. He maintained that the IHC order infringed upon his rights under Article 10-A, damaged his spotless reputation, and wasted valuable judicial time. He further warned that if the order is not suspended, it would cause “irreparable loss.”
The judge requested the Supreme Court to suspend the IHC’s controversial directive. Sources indicated that Justice Jahangiri is likely to argue his case himself before the apex court. The appeal has been registered under diary number 23409.
On September 16, the IHC had barred Justice Jahangiri from judicial work until the Supreme Judicial Council delivers its decision on the fake degree allegations. A day later, on September 17, he filed a request for the audio and video recordings of the Chief Justice’s court proceedings.
