World’s Most Expensive Purple Mango Now Grown in Pakistan, Priced at Rs 300,000 per Kilo

Karachi: While Indian mangoes are being rejected in the United States, Pakistan is making headlines with the cultivation of one of the world’s rarest and most expensive mangoes — the Japanese-origin Miyazaki mango.
This unique variety, known for its deep purple hue and exceptionally sweet taste, is now being grown in the Memon Goth area of Malir, Karachi. The mango is fetching up to PKR 300,000 per kilogram in the local market.
Originally cultivated in Miyazaki, Japan, the mango is internationally recognized for its glowing appearance, fiberless pulp, creamy texture, and unmatched sweetness. It is sold in international markets for $800 to $900 per kilogram, making it one of the most luxurious fruits in the world.
The journey of the Miyazaki mango in Pakistan began six years ago when a local resident, Ghulam Hashim Noorani, imported the plant from Japan. Since then, he has successfully nurtured it in Karachi’s climate.
According to Faheem, the caretaker of the tree, this mango is primarily grown for export purposes. “This is the first and only Miyazaki mango tree in Pakistan, and it is located here in Malir,” he said.
The mango’s striking beauty and rarity have earned it global nicknames such as “Eggs of Sunshine” and “Dinosaur’s Egg.” It is highly prized not only for its flavor and aroma but also for its exclusivity and ornamental appeal.
