Pakistan Raises Terror Threat from Afghanistan at UN, Submits Evidence to Security Council

NEW YORKضPakistan has raised the issue of terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil at the United Nations, presenting evidence of cross-border infiltration and attacks to the UN Security Council.

According to Arab News, Pakistan informed the Council that over 60 militant camps in Afghanistan pose a direct threat to its national security. Islamabad held the Afghan Taliban responsible for enabling cross-border attacks.

The camps, Pakistan said, are being used to launch assaults against security forces and innocent civilians inside Pakistan. Evidence includes records of joint training exercises among terrorist groups, illegal arms trafficking, and coordinated attacks.

Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Asim Iftikhar Ahmed, told the Council that these camps serve as hubs for infiltration and violence. He stressed that terrorism emanating from Afghanistan remains the single biggest threat to Pakistan’s security.

He highlighted that groups including ISIS, Al-Qaeda, TTP, BLA, and the Majeed Brigade are operating from Afghan sanctuaries. Pakistan and China have jointly submitted a request to the 1267 Sanctions Committee to designate BLA and the Majeed Brigade as terrorist entities.

“Asim Iftikhar expressed hope that the Security Council will act swiftly to curb Afghanistan-based terrorism, urging the Taliban authorities to fulfill their international counterterrorism obligations.

He further noted that no country desires peace and stability in Afghanistan more than Pakistan, adding that the TTP, with an estimated 6,000 fighters, is the largest terrorist outfit on Afghan soil. Pakistan, he said, has successfully foiled multiple infiltration attempts by TTP and BLA militants but warned that the situation is becoming intolerable.
