Pakistan, Saudi Arabia Stand Shoulder to Shoulder: Defense Minister on Historic Defense Pact

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has hailed the newly signed Pakistan-Saudi Arabia joint defense agreement as a “historic milestone” in the brotherly ties between the two nations, declaring that both countries now stand united against any common adversary.

In a post on social media platform X, Asif said, *“Two brotherly nations are aligned and standing shoulder to shoulder before the enemy. Under the shadow of the Almighty, the entire Muslim Ummah will, Insha’Allah, remain united against common threats. Long live Pakistan, long live the Muslim Ummah.”*

The landmark defense agreement was signed in Riyadh during Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s official visit to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Upon his arrival, Sharif was accorded a grand welcome, including an escort by Saudi F-15 fighter jets.

The agreement underscores mutual commitments to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both nations. It formally makes Pakistan a strategic partner in the protection of the Haramain Sharifain and the security of Saudi Arabia.

Army Chief Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir played a pivotal role in the formulation and finalization of the agreement, which builds on decades of military cooperation, joint exercises, and defense ties, now elevated to a formal strategic partnership.

Officials emphasize that the pact is expected not only to strengthen regional peace and global security but also to open new avenues of economic, diplomatic, and military cooperation between the two countries.
