Punjab Floods: Death Toll Reaches 119, Over 4.7 Million People Affected

LAHORE: The devastating floods in Punjab have claimed 119 lives so far, with more than 4.72 million people affected across the province, according to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).
Relief Commissioner Punjab, Nabeel Javed, said that over 4,700 villages have been hit by flooding caused by the overflowing Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers. As many as 2.614 million people stranded in floodwaters have been rescued and relocated to safer areas.
To support the affected population, 329 relief camps and 425 medical camps have been established, along with 367 veterinary camps to provide treatment for livestock. Authorities reported that around 2.09 million animals have been shifted to secure locations.
The water situation in major dams remains critical, with Mangla Dam at 95% capacity and Tarbela Dam filled to 100%. On the Indian side, Bhakra Dam is at 88%, Pong Dam at 94%, and Thein Dam at 88%.
The Punjab government has announced that losses suffered by citizens will be compensated. A survey to assess damages will begin soon to ensure a transparent and efficient compensation process, as per the directives of the Chief Minister.
