Attempt to Smuggle Gold and Foreign Currency Worth Rs 19 Crore Foiled at Karachi Airport

Karachi: Pakistan Customs foiled an attempt to smuggle gold, gold bars, and foreign currency worth Rs 19 crore at Jinnah International Airport on Thursday morning.

Customs officials intercepted a suspicious passenger holding a Pakistani passport arriving from Abu Dhabi on Etihad Airways flight AY 296, accompanied by family members. The passenger’s luggage was sent to the red channel for detailed inspection, where gold and foreign currency were detected.

Authorities recovered 281 tolas of 22-carat gold jewelry, two 10-tola 24-carat gold bars, $33,100 in U.S. dollars, and AED 366,000 in cash.
A case has been registered, and the recovered items were confiscated under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1969.
