Gwadar Port Chairman, QESCO CEO Discuss Power Crisis and Infrastructure Upgrades

Gwadar – Chairman Gwadar Port, Noor-ul-Haq Baloch, met with Chief Executive Officer of Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), Yousaf Shah, to discuss Gwadar’s ongoing electricity crisis, including issues affecting the port, Gwadar Free Zone, and the 1.2 MGD desalination plant.
During the meeting, the Chairman expressed serious concern over frequent load-shedding, voltage fluctuations, and recurrent transformer failures since Gwadar was connected to the national grid. He noted that unannounced power outages and low voltage in residential areas are causing severe hardships for citizens. He stressed the urgent need to upgrade the power distribution system, replace outdated lines, and install new transformers to ensure uninterrupted supply to Gwadar and surrounding areas.
Highlighting public complaints, Noor-ul-Haq Baloch said that the electricity shortage has disrupted not only daily life but also water supply and the fishing industry. He urged the federal government and QESCO Balochistan to take immediate joint measures for a permanent solution. He also announced that QESCO staff will receive technical training at the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute (PCTVI).
QESCO CEO Yousaf Shah informed the meeting that 80 new transformers are being procured for Gwadar, with 20 to be kept on standby. He added that all worn-out wires and weak poles are being replaced. He further announced training programs for Makran Division staff to familiarize them with Gwadar’s power system, along with a study tour at PCTVI for QESCO trainees.
