Hub Faces Severe Water Shortage After Lasbela Canal Disruption

Hub – A severe water crisis has gripped Hub city after recent rains damaged the Lasbela Canal, disrupting the main supply line to both residential and industrial areas. The water supply system has come to a complete halt, leaving thousands of residents without access to clean water.
According to locals, the suspension of water flow from the canal has stopped supply to the entire city. Even the pumping system, which provided partial relief to some neighborhoods, has been shut down. Residents blame the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for failing to ensure uninterrupted supply, accusing it of negligence and inefficiency.
They added that frequent leakages in PHE pipelines waste large amounts of water whenever the canal resumes flow. In the absence of official arrangements, tanker mafias are reportedly exploiting the crisis, selling water at inflated rates.
Earlier, the DG PDMA and Chief Engineer Irrigation stated in a joint press conference with the provincial minister that repair work on the canal would take three days. However, residents argue that the Deputy Commissioner of Hub should have arranged alternative water sources in the meantime.
The crisis has not only affected households but also disrupted production in Hub’s industrial zones, causing economic concerns. Citizens have appealed to the Balochistan government to take urgent steps to restore water supply and prevent further suffering.
