PMD Forecasts Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms in Upper Pakistan from Sept 15–19

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted widespread rains and thunderstorms in the upper regions of the country from September 15 to 19, due to the influence of westerly winds and moisture from the Arabian Sea.

According to the forecast, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will experience thunderstorms and heavy rains from September 16 to 19 in areas including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Kohat, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, Swabi, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Hangu, Karak, and Waziristan.

Rain is also expected in parts of Punjab, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. In Kashmir, areas such as Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhnuti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur are likely to receive showers. In Gilgit-Baltistan, Diamer, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar may also see rainfall between September 16 and 19.

For Punjab and Islamabad, rain and thunderstorms are forecast in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum between September 16 and 19, while on September 18 and 19, downpours are expected in Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, and Faisalabad.

Some areas may receive heavy rainfall, with a risk of urban flooding and landslides in hilly regions such as KP, GB, Murree, Galliyat, and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, most parts of Sindh and Balochistan will remain dry, though coastal areas may experience partly cloudy weather.

The PMD warned that strong winds, hailstorms, and lightning could damage vulnerable structures such as mud houses, electricity poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels. Authorities have been advised to remain on high alert, while citizens, tourists, and travelers have been urged to avoid unnecessary movement in hazardous areas during the spell.
