KP Audit Report Uncovers Major Irregularities in Anti-Polio Fund Spending

Peshawar – Serious irregularities have surfaced in the **Audit Report 2022-23** regarding the disbursement of anti-polio funds in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the findings, security personnel deployed during the campaigns were paid **illegal excess payments amounting to Rs 6.4 million**. Similarly, running the campaign for **five days instead of the approved four days** resulted in an **extra expenditure of Rs 2.2 million**.

The report further revealed that **Rs 9.6 million in security charges** remained unnecessarily withheld due to delayed payments, while the **DPO of Hangu failed to pay security staff for 11 months**.

A more glaring observation was the absence of records for the return of **Rs 151.2 million in unutilized polio funds** by the Home Department. Moreover, failure to deduct taxes led to a **loss of Rs 3 million to the national exchequer**.

The Auditor General also flagged **suspicious double payments of Rs 4.1 million** for security charges, while despite having official vehicles, the department spent **Rs 17 million on private vehicle rentals**.

Between **FY 2020-21 and FY 2021-22**, the Home Department received over **Rs 500 million** in anti-polio funds, which were distributed to Deputy Commissioners and then to DPOs for security of vaccination teams.
