Judges Are Meant to Deliver Justice, Not Create Headlines or Humiliate People: Pervaiz Rashid

Islamabad: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Senator Pervaiz Rashid has said that the responsibility of judges is to dispense justice, not to create television headlines, humiliate individuals, or reprimand them unnecessarily.
Speaking on Geo News’ program *Geo Pakistan*, Rashid responded to the recent resignations of two Supreme Court judges. He noted that only two judges resigned, claiming the Constitution had been dismantled and the Supreme Court fragmented, but no other judge agreed with them and continued performing their duties.
He said this clearly shows that neither the Constitution has been harmed nor has the Supreme Court been divided. “You cannot start a movement based solely on the opinion of two individuals,” he added.
Rashid emphasized that the power to amend the Constitution lies with Parliament, and it is an established constitutional right. “Supreme Court judges are themselves a product of the Constitution,” he said. “Are these two judges suggesting that they will only hear cases involving government officials and elected representatives so they can humiliate, disgrace, send them to jail, or disqualify them?”
He went on to say that judges must hear all cases, including those related to murder, land grabbing, and injustices faced by ordinary citizens. “Your job in the superior judiciary is to provide justice to every citizen—not to appear on TV tickers for scolding or humiliating someone,” he remarked.
Rashid also highlighted that the recent constitutional amendment was passed with the consensus of all political parties. No PTI member voted against it, and in the Senate, 64 members stood in its favor with no opposition. “When no one objects, it is clear that the amendment was approved unanimously,” he said, noting that only three JUI-F members opposed a separate amendment passed a day earlier.
