Claim About Removal of “Earning Halal Livelihood is Worship” from Pakistani Currency Notes Proven False

Karachi: Social media platforms recently witnessed a viral claim alleging that the phrase **”Earning halal livelihood is worship”** (*Husool-e-Rizq-e-Halal Ibaadat Hai*) had been removed from Pakistani currency notes. The claim sparked widespread criticism and concerns among users over the symbolic importance of differentiating between halal (lawful) and haram (unlawful) earnings.
Users across Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube echoed the claim, stating that this religious and ethical phrase, traditionally printed on the reverse side of Pakistani currency notes, was no longer present on newly issued notes.

However, thorough investigation has revealed that **this claim is false**. A senior official from the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the phrase remains intact on all denominations of Pakistani currency—from Rs. 10 to Rs. 5,000. The official pointed to the SBP’s official website, which includes detailed specifications of all currency notes, including this specific phrase.
In addition to the official clarification, a fact-checking team independently verified a newly issued Rs. 500 note and confirmed that the phrase is clearly printed on its reverse side, debunking the viral claim circulating online.
In conclusion, the widely spread assertion that the phrase **”Earning halal livelihood is worship”** has been removed from Pakistani currency notes is **untrue**. The phrase remains an integral part of all banknotes, and no official decision has been made to omit it.
