Flood is a National Emergency, Government Alone Cannot Handle It: Sharjeel Memon

Karachi: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has declared the ongoing flood crisis a national emergency, emphasizing that the government alone cannot tackle the situation without public cooperation.
In a statement, Memon said the Sindh government is closely monitoring the flood situation and implementing a coordinated strategy at every level. He added that the provincial government and all relevant institutions are working day and night to conduct monitoring and relief operations. Water levels at barrages and rivers are being constantly monitored to enable timely preventive measures.
He said residents of affected “katcha” areas are being relocated to safe locations, where they are being provided with temporary shelter, clean drinking water, food, medicine, and other essential supplies. He urged citizens to follow the instructions of the administration and rescue agencies, avoid rumors, and immediately contact the nearest center or helpline in case of an emergency.
Sharjeel Memon highlighted that the Chief Minister of Sindh and other cabinet members are personally overseeing the operations and visiting the affected areas. He reiterated that the government’s aim is not just to provide temporary relief but to ensure long-term rehabilitation and take permanent measures to prevent such disasters in the future.
He provided the latest water flow statistics:
* At **Trimmu**, water levels have decreased with inflow and outflow at **161,278 cusecs**.
* At **Panjnad**, a very high-level flood persists with inflow and outflow of **660,350 cusecs**.
* At **Guddu**, a medium-level flood is observed with an inflow of **505,034 cusecs** and outflow of **475,970 cusecs**.
* At **Sukkur Barrage**, medium-level flooding continues with an inflow of **440,985 cusecs** and outflow of **412,735 cusecs**.
* At **Kotri**, a low-level flood exists with water inflow at **258,004 cusecs** and outflow at **254,354 cusecs**.
Memon shared that in the past 36 hours, **2,375 individuals** from katcha areas have been shifted to safer places, raising the total number of relocated individuals to **150,002**. Medical services have been provided to **8,389 people** through **169 fixed and mobile health sites**, and overall, **63,748 individuals** have received medical assistance so far.
He also noted that **11,844 livestock** have been moved to safety in the last 36 hours, bringing the total to **410,951 animals** relocated. A total of **49,303 animals** have been vaccinated and treated recently, with a cumulative total of **1,080,694** livestock treated since the onset of the flood situation.
