High Flood Persists in Punjab Rivers, Chenab Inundates Multan Areas

LAHORE: The flow of water in Punjab’s rivers shows no signs of receding, with a high flood level maintained at Head Trimmu on River Chenab, where the discharge has surged to 508,000 cusecs.

Authorities confirmed that the floodwaters of the Chenab passing through Multan are wreaking havoc in Shujaabad and Jalalpur tehsils. Due to its location at the confluence of two rivers, Jalalpur Pirwala in Multan district has suffered the most damage, with over 50 villages submerged.

According to the Irrigation Department, an 8-kilometer-long temporary embankment is being constructed rapidly to protect the city. At Akbar Flood Bund and Sher Shah Flood Bund, a slight reduction in water flow has been observed, with levels holding at 394 feet for the past 48 hours. Efforts to reinforce the Sher Shah Flood Bund are ongoing, with continuous dumping of soil.

Meanwhile, Head Panjnad is also experiencing high flood, where the flow has reached close to 370,000 cusecs. At Chiniot, River Chenab is witnessing a medium-level flood.

The Flood Forecasting Division Lahore reported an exceptionally high flood at River Sutlej near Ganda Singh Wala, with water discharge recorded at 311,000 cusecs. At Head Sulemanki, the river is in high flood, while Head Islam is under medium flood conditions.

In River Ravi, high flood levels have been reported at Head Balloki and Sidhnai. The flow at Balloki has risen to 154,000 cusecs, while Sidhnai has shown a decline, with levels dropping to 91,000 cusecs.
