Sindh CM Warns of Potential Flood: Calls for Preparedness for 700,000–900,000 Cusecs of Water

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has urged authorities to remain fully prepared for a potential flood situation, warning that the province may face water flows ranging between **700,000 and 900,000 cusecs**.

Chairing a high-level meeting on the province’s flood situation, the CM said that while water levels have shown a slight decline, the peak flow at **Guddu Barrage is expected on September 8**, requiring timely evacuation and establishment of relief camps.

Officials briefed the meeting that water inflows at **Tarbela Dam** stood at 183,000 cusecs with an outflow of 155,000 cusecs, while **Mangla Dam** recorded inflows of 115,000 cusecs and outflows of 133,000 cusecs, both showing a downward trend.

At **Guddu Barrage**, water inflows exceeded 350,000 cusecs with outflows at 377,000 cusecs, whereas **Sukkur Barrage** recorded inflows of 331,000 cusecs and outflows of 277,000 cusecs—indicating a rise in water levels at both barrages.

The CM was informed that **528 relief camps** have already been established across the province, though occupancy remains low, while **109,000 people** have been evacuated from riverine areas. Additionally, **169 medical camps** have treated 27,801 patients, and **110 livestock camps** have vaccinated more than 754,000 animals.

CM Murad Ali Shah directed authorities to ensure maximum facilities for displaced citizens, stressing that those moving into relief camps must be taken care of with full attention and resources.
