Flood Victims in Dera Ghazi Khan Rely on Boats as Stranded Villages Face Daily Struggles

Islamabad:In flood-hit areas of Dera Ghazi Khan, submerged roads and broken routes have left families dependent on private boats for their daily needs. From transporting the sick to hospitals to bringing food and essentials for children, residents are left with no option but to rely on costly boat rides.
While boatmen are witnessing increased income, the hardships of affected families continue to mount. “We are earning, but it hurts to see poor families crossing water routes again and again,” said one boat operator.
Although the water level in the Indus River has slightly receded, several villages remain surrounded by floodwaters. Families living in mud houses are still forced to pay boat fares to move to safer places.
For the boatmen, the floods have brought new opportunities for livelihood, but for victims trapped in poverty and displacement, each day brings a fresh test of survival.
