Unprecedented Floods in Sutlej River at Ganda Singh Wala; Kasur on High Alert

Islamabad: An **extraordinary flood surge** has hit the Sutlej River at Ganda Singh Wala, where water flow has surpassed **350,000 cusecs**, marking the heaviest flood since 1955.

According to Express News, the situation may worsen due to heavy rains and potential water releases from India. Authorities in **Kasur and surrounding areas** have placed rescue and relief agencies on high alert.

Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed and PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia addressed a press conference, stating that the Sutlej had risen from 261,000 cusecs to 350,000 cusecs. “The last time such a massive flow occurred was in 1955. To save Kasur city, we are being forced to breach RRA-1. Evacuation of residents from at-risk areas is already underway,” said Kathia.

He added that water levels are also rising at **Head Sulaimanki** and are expected to increase further in the next two days. While Shahdara is witnessing a decline in river flow, water levels at **Head Balloki** are increasing. Administrations in **Okara, Sahiwal, and Toba Tek Singh** have completed evacuations from low-lying areas.

Kathia further revealed that Punjab’s three major rivers are under **super flood conditions**, with **28 deaths** reported so far, mostly in Gujranwala Division during flash and urban flooding. He noted that the floodwaters will pass through **30 to 40 villages of Mandi Bahauddin** before returning to the river.

To protect **Jhang city**, the Rewas Railway Bridge was demolished, reducing the water pressure by 150,000 cusecs. Similarly, the **NHA also breached the Jhang–Shorkot road** to ease the flood flow.

Authorities warned that the **next few hours are critical** for Kasur and adjoining areas as the Sutlej continues to swell.
