PTI Workers Protest Near Adiala Jail, Imran Khan’s Sisters, Aliya Hamza, Hamid Raza Arrested

Rawalpindi: PTI workers protested near Adiala Jail after authorities prevented them from meeting Imran Khan, leading to clashes and several arrests, including the detention of Imran Khan’s three sisters, Aliya Hamza, MNA Shafqat Awan, and several workers.
On the day when meetings were scheduled with Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi, family members arrived at Adiala Jail to meet them. Among them were his sisters Mehral Nisa and Mubashra Shaikh, who were allowed to enter the jail after obtaining permission from the authorities.
Several key PTI leaders, including Barrister Ali Zafar, Aliya Hamza, Nadia Khattak, and others, were also present to meet Imran Khan. However, PTI’s senior leaders, including Barrister Gohar, Salman Akram Raja, and Zahid Abbas Chaudhry, were stopped at a checkpoint some distance from the jail and not allowed to proceed on foot either.
Salman Akram Raja expressed confusion, stating that their visit was pre-approved and their names had been sent to the authorities, yet they were prevented from meeting the detained leader.
As tensions grew, PTI workers gathered near the jail, and the police cracked down on them. Four workers, including two women, were arrested during the protests. Aliya Khan, Azma Khan, and Imran Khan’s son were also prevented from visiting.
Aliya Khan spoke with the media, expressing frustration over the constant denial of their right to meet Imran Khan. She accused the authorities of acting on orders from either Shehbaz Sharif or Maryam Nawaz and vowed to continue their peaceful protest until they were allowed to meet their family member.
After some negotiations, six lawyers were permitted to meet Imran Khan, including Barrister Gohar, Barrister Ali Zafar, and others. Despite the limited access, the family members of Imran Khan were only partially allowed to meet him. Azma Khan, Noreen Khan, and Qasim Khan Nyazi were allowed to meet, but Aliya Khan was blocked from visiting, leading to further protests.
Meanwhile, police detained several individuals near the checkpoint, including lawyers, although they were later released after negotiations.
In a heated altercation, police officers clashed with journalists, including a reporter from a private news channel, as they were covering the ongoing protests. Police threats and the use of inappropriate language towards the media were condemned.
As the situation escalated, PTI workers attempted to march towards the jail, but police quickly intervened, leading to more arrests. PTI leader Umar Ayub addressed the crowd, stating that the judiciary must decide whether they will enforce their orders or let the situation worsen.
In the internal discussions with PTI leaders, it was revealed that Imran Khan had entrusted Aliya Hamza with organizational decisions in Punjab. He expressed full confidence in her leadership and instructed that notifications regarding her responsibilities be issued.
The protests and arrests continued to stir tensions, and the political situation remains volatile as the opposition demands accountability and the release of political prisoners.
