Biggest Flood Threat Yet to Come as Water Flows Toward Sindh: Climate Minister

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Climate Change, Musadik Malik, has warned that the biggest flood threat will arise when water surges reach Punjand and flow into Sindh.

Speaking on Geo News program *Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath*, Malik said rainfall has subsided in Indian Punjab and Indian-occupied Kashmir, leading to some reduction in water entering Pakistan. However, he cautioned that the real danger is ahead when the floodwaters converge downstream.

He also predicted that next year’s monsoon season will likely begin two weeks earlier, last longer, and bring more intense spells compared to this year.

Meanwhile, Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal blamed India for releasing water in heavy surges instead of maintaining a steady flow, which he said caused more destruction. “Had the water entered gradually, it could have been managed better,” he noted.

Iqbal added that Narowal is witnessing its worst flooding since 1988, damaging crops and infrastructure. He stressed the urgent need for a joint action plan among provinces to eliminate encroachments along rivers and waterways.
