Heatwave Relief Expected as Pre-Monsoon System Brings Rain and Dust Storms Across Pakistan

A significant drop in the ongoing heatwave across various parts of Pakistan is expected as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast pre-monsoon rains, gusty winds, and dust storms in several regions.
According to the PMD, most areas of the country will experience hot and dry weather on Sunday, June 15, with extremely high temperatures likely to persist in the plains. However, partly cloudy conditions, dust storms, thunderstorms, and light rain are also anticipated at isolated locations.
This weather pattern may affect parts of southern and southeastern Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and southeastern Sindh, northeastern Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. The PMD noted that the system began impacting eastern Sindh on Saturday evening, with expected thunderstorms and rain in Tharparkar and Umerkot.
On Sunday, the weather activity is expected to intensify, bringing rainfall and gusty winds to districts including Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Mithi, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Thatta, Karachi, and Hyderabad.
Moist winds are also entering the upper regions of the country, likely to result in dust storms, rain, and even hail in parts of Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from June 13 to 16.
Similarly, rainfall is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and parts of upper and central Punjab, along with Balochistan’s Zhob, Barkhan, and Musakhel districts until June 16.
Southern Punjab is also forecast to receive rain and thunderstorms during this period. The predicted weather activity is expected to provide temporary relief from the intense heatwave affecting much of the country in recent days.
