Emergency Meeting Held in Gwadar to Address Severe Water and Electricity Crisis

Gwadar:Amid a worsening water and electricity crisis in Gwadar, an emergency high-level meeting was jointly chaired by Member of Provincial Assembly Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman Baloch and Chairman Gwadar Port Authority, Noor-ul-Haq Baloch. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Gwadar, officials from Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), Quetta Electric Supply Company (QESCO), Chinese representatives, and other concerned departments.

During the briefing, it was revealed that residents of Gwadar face a severe water shortage, with no supply for 20 to 30 days at a time. Additionally, frequent and unannounced power outages have become routine, severely affecting both domestic life and industrial activities.

It was reported that the **Makran Division requires 128 megawatts** of electricity, but the existing transmission lines can handle only **80 megawatts**. Power supply from Iran remains suspended for up to 12 hours daily, while electricity from the national grid is unstable and often disrupted.

Chairman Gwadar Port instructed QESCO officials to provide a detailed explanation of the issues and announced a separate QESCO-specific meeting to be held on Thursday to address electricity-related problems.

Serious concern was also raised over the **unequal distribution of water**. It was reported that influential individuals secure large water connections and receive more water, while ordinary households face acute shortages. The meeting stressed the need for **fair and equal distribution of water resources**.

All participants agreed that the issues of water and electricity in Gwadar must be urgently escalated to both **provincial and federal levels**, and that **emergency measures** should be taken to resolve the public’s grievances without delay.

This meeting reflects growing urgency and commitment among local authorities to ensure that the people of Gwadar receive their basic rights and relief from ongoing hardships.
