Sanam Marvi Responds Gracefully to Criticism Over Performing After Hajj

Karachi – Renowned Pakistani Sufi and folk singer **Sanam Marvi** has broken her silence over the criticism she faces for continuing her musical career after performing Hajj. Speaking candidly on the morning show *“Subh Ka Sama”* with host **Madiha Naqvi**, Marvi addressed the backlash and misconceptions surrounding her religious practices and profession.
Yes, this is the negative side of showbiz—everyone feels entitled to comment on your life, no matter how difficult their own situation may be,” she said. “The most hurtful thing is when people say: ‘Oh, she went for Hajj? Now she’ll just do pilgrimages?’ And when we return to our work, the first question is: ‘Will you sing even after Hajj?’”
Marvi, known for reviving Sufi poetry with her soulful voice, expressed how deeply these comments affect her, especially when people assume that devotion and profession cannot coexist. “This is our profession, and we pursue it with all our heart,” she stated. “I remain silent in the face of trolling, because maybe that’s how they earn their living—by judging others.”
In the heartfelt interview, Sanam Marvi emphasized the importance of balance between faith and work. “Singing is my career, and worship is my faith. There’s no clash between the two. People speak just for the sake of speaking,” she said with a calm smile.
Her remarks shed light on the emotional challenges artists often face, especially women, when their spiritual journeys are scrutinized. More than just a response, her words reflected patience, resilience, and the grace of a true artist—someone who answers criticism not with anger, but with dignity.
