Afghan Community in U.S. Faces Uncertainty Amid Stricter Immigration Policies Under Trump

United States: Four years after the Taliban takeover of Kabul, thousands of Afghan refugees who sought asylum in the U.S. continue to live under a cloud of uncertainty and fear. Many still remain in legally unstable situations, and former President Donald Trump’s hardline immigration policies have worsened their plight.
While some Afghans arrived under Special Immigrant Visas (SIV) or emergency asylum provisions, the Trump administration significantly reduced refugee programs and revoked Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for many. As a result, thousands of Afghans now face the risk of living without legal status and possible deportation.
Experts say these policies have intensified feelings of insecurity and anxiety within the Afghan diaspora, making it difficult for families to plan for their future. Despite these challenges, Afghan refugees continue to find strength through community support and resilience, holding on to hope amid adversity.
