Former Miss India Finalist Maitri Kranth Shares Her Inspiring Weight Loss Journey After Shocking Comments

Hong Kong: Maitri Kranth, a Hong Kong-based stand-up comedian and former Miss India finalist, has stunned many by losing an impressive amount of weight in just one year. Her transformation has become an inspiring example for many individuals struggling with weight loss.
Reflecting on her journey, Maitri revealed that it began two decades ago when, while playing squash with a friend, she collided with a wall while running for a shot, resulting in a severe chest injury and significant bleeding. This injury, which took months to heal, severely impacted her mobility. Once active and energetic, Maitri turned to food for comfort, leading to a weight gain of 25 kg.
Despite her weight gain, Maitri said, “I still felt beautiful and continued posting pictures on social media without feeling the need to hide any part of my body.” However, when she resumed activities like squash and hiking, the effects of her weight became more apparent, and she realized how heavy she had become.
She also shared that during this time, she received hurtful comments. “One person said, ‘If I were you, I wouldn’t even go outside.’ Another wanted to see my food to understand why I looked the way I did. Someone even said, ‘You look like a buffalo,'” Maitri recounted.

Determined to make a change, Maitri adopted intermittent fasting and began eating only once a day. Initially, her meals weren’t particularly healthy, but as her weight began to decrease, she developed a preference for healthier foods. Her typical meal included a small serving of rice, boiled eggs for protein, plenty of vegetables, some fruit, and a small piece of dessert.
Maitri continued, “When I changed my eating habits and started losing weight, I also resumed my favorite physical activities.” By sticking to her once-a-day eating plan and completely cutting out alcohol, she successfully lost 30 kg in a year, bringing her weight down to 62 kg.
However, her journey wasn’t without challenges. “I struggled with moderation when it came to drinking wine on weekends. I realized I had an unhealthy relationship with food. I feared food and didn’t know my limits when I ate,” she said. She later gained 7 kg but returned to her once-a-day eating routine and lost the extra weight within two months.
Maitri added that she now tries to maintain a healthy relationship with food, eating twice a day and allowing herself small portions of everything.
She also shared insights about the intermittent fasting approach, known as OMAD (One Meal a Day). While it may help some people lose weight in the short term by drastically reducing calorie intake, Maitri warned that it may not be suitable for women over 50 due to hormonal changes, bone density, and muscle mass. Relying on OMAD can lead to deficiencies in essential nutrients like protein, calcium, and fiber, which are crucial during and after menopause. A balanced diet with nutrient-dense foods is more effective in the long term.
