Balochistan High Court Issues Notices to Federal and Provincial Governments on Mines and Minerals Act

Quetta: The Balochistan High Court heard multiple petitions challenging the Mines and Minerals Act, during which the court approved the petitions for hearing and issued notices to both the federal and provincial governments.
The petitioners’ lawyers argued that the proposed Act amounts to the confiscation of local lands and raises concerns about foreign companies gaining control over the province’s resources. They emphasized that the Act disregards the rights of the local population, causing widespread concern among the public.
Political leader Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani, speaking to the media, called the Act an attempt to allow international companies to take control of Balochistan’s lands, which he stated would not be accepted under any circumstances. He described the issue as serious and vowed to raise the matter on all legal and political platforms.
Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani also announced that an All-Party Conference (APC) would soon be convened to develop a joint strategy against the controversial law, with all political parties coming together to oppose it.
It is noteworthy that the Mines and Minerals Act has been jointly challenged by Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, National Party, Balochistan National Party (BNP), Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), and other political groups.
Following the initial hearing, the court adjourned the matter for two weeks.
