Spain Makes It Easier for Remote Workers to Obtain Affordable Digital Nomad Visa

Islamabad: Spain has announced the launch of a new ‘Digital Nomad’ visa program for citizens of non-European Union countries. This initiative aims to provide remote workers with the opportunity to live and work in Spain while continuing their jobs for companies located outside of the country.
The visa allows individuals to reside in Spain while working remotely for their foreign-based employers. The program, which was introduced earlier in 2023, initially had a high fee. However, the fee has now been significantly reduced to make it more accessible.
The new ‘Digital Nomad’ visa program is available under Spain’s “Startup Act” initiative, with the visa fee set at just 75 euros (approximately 25,000 Pakistani rupees). The visa’s initial validity is for one year, but it can be extended for up to five years.
Not only the primary applicant but also their close family members, such as spouses and children, are eligible to apply for the visa under this program.
There are several conditions for applicants: they must be from a country outside of Europe and must prove that they have been working remotely for at least three months for a foreign company. Applicants must also demonstrate that 80% of their income comes from outside Spain and that the company they work for has been in operation for at least one year. Furthermore, they will need to present documentation of their remote work agreement, income stability, business registration, and a clean criminal record.
The primary objective of Spain’s new program is to simplify the process for digital nomads wishing to live and work in Spain. Applicants can apply for this visa either from their home country or while in Spain on a tourist visa.
With remote work becoming increasingly common, many individuals are now choosing to work from different parts of the world while continuing their professional duties. Spain’s new digital nomad visa makes this possibility even more attractive.
